Day of Reckoning

Speaker: Nick Carruthers Series: 2 Kings: The Long Road to Exile Passage: 2 Kings 8–10

As we move into the mid-stages of the book of 2 Kings, we see that Israel’s time is beginning to run out. If the journey to exile is a long distance track race, then chapters 8-10 function as a kind of ringing of the bell which indicates they only have one lap to go. However, before Israel gets sent off to Assyria, Yahweh still has some unfinished business with the family of Ahab. Israel’s worst king may be dead, but there are still some unfulfilled prophecies and unfulfilled duties which must take place. Yahweh is a God of justice, which means he is also a God who administers judgment on the wicked.
