Settle Up

Speaker: Series: Luke - The Gospel For Everyone Passage: Luke 12:49–59

In our previous four messages, we have slowly been tackling a long sermon by Jesus, in Luke Chapter 12. In this message, we finally finish it up. As we do, we see Jesus strongly warn and rebuke the crowds for their unbelief and for their lack of understanding on the judgement that is to come. Jesus, almost like a religious fanatic on a street corner, is holding up a warning sign. He is calling the people of Israel to repent and prepare for the coming judgement. He will use different word pictures, parables, and stories to get his point across, but the message is same. Repent and settle your debts, or perish. This kind of teaching from Jesus might make us feel uncomfortable, or may tempt us to feel embarrassed, but it is absolutely essential; and it is the heart of the gospel.
