Doesn't Religion Cause Violence?

This question is certainly one that has been asked and repeated over and over in recent years. In fact in some circles, it is not even questioned--it’s assumed. Physicist and Philosopher Victor Stenger summed up many people’s feelings on the topic when he said, "Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into buildings." Is what he says true? Does religion cause violence?
