In this passage, we find Israel at one of its lowest, and most spiritually depressed, moments in its history. King Ahab and his wife Jezebel have led the people of Israel into forsaking Yahweh as their God. Instead, they have led the people into worshipping the false god Baal. As a result, the LORD sent a famine for three years. In 1 Kings 18, he is ready to end the famine. In doing so, he is going to confront Ahab and the people of Israel. He will prove once and for all that he is the one true God.
