Hypocrisy is one of the most universally frowned upon character traits. At the same time, to one degree or another, we are all guilty of hypocrisy. In this passage, we will see Jesus confront the issue of hypocrisy in the context of practicing righteousness. Jesus warns His followers not to fall into the trap of making their righteousness about receiving the praise of other people. Instead, He calls us to a private piety where only the Father sees and rewards us.
