Church at Risk

The much anticipated movie Spotlight hits the theaters this weekend. It tells the painful story of journalists from the Boston Globe uncovering the sexual abuse scandal that rocked the Catholic Church in 2001. Exploited victims bore untold hurt and Jesus’ church as a whole suffered a serious setback. What happened remains today a vital lesson for leaders and members of any organization. It was a lesson the brothers and sisters of the ancient church in Corinth were wrestling with. Would they take sexual sin in their midst seriously or would they ignore it? It was their critical question, and learning from it will help us stay the course in our own day.
