You Are God's Investment

Series: The Gospel According to Matthew Passage: Matthew 25:14–30

Jesus didn’t say, “Well said, good and faithful servant.” He said, “Well done.” --Jon Tyson

1) Responsibility Entrusted (vv. 14–15)

2) Responsibility Exercised (vv. 16–18)

3) Responsibility Evaluated (vv. 19-30)

Responsibility Entrusted (vv. 14–15)

The kingdom of heaven is not a “one-size-fits-all” economy. God’s people are different and he treats them differently. --R.T. France

In the kingdom of Christ, not all are created equal. Our call to salvation is equal, but our calls to service are apportioned by a wise Lord‘s knowledge of each servant’s ability. --Dale Bruner

Responsibility Exercised (vv. 16–18)

Responsibility Evaluated (vv. 19-30)

We are not only saved from sin; we are saved to service…We confess in the creed, “from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.” The Return [of Jesus] brings this accounting. The life of faith is not just receiving gifts; it is also giving accounts. The life of faith lives between grace and judgment. Paul stresses the former without neglecting the latter; Matthew stresses the latter without neglecting the former. --Dale Bruner

Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. -- A.W. Tozer

In repeating the servant’s charge against him, the master does not acknowledge that it is true. He allows the man’s own words to condemn him. If the servant really believes the master to be this kind of man he portrays, that was all the more reason for him not to be slothful. His accusation against the master—even if it had been true—does not justify his own laziness. --John MacArthur

Are you faithfully stewarding the gifts, the calling and the life that God has given you?

What is your primary view of God?
