Envy | It's Complicated...| Linworth Road Church
Series: "Its Complicated..." - When Community Gets Messy Passage: Psalm 73:1–28
All sin offends God and hurts us individually, but some sin that we commit also hurts and damages a community as well. Certainly, envy is one of those sins. Thomas Aquinas defined envy as “sorry for another's good.” In that sense, envy is the opposite of love. Love says rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep, but envy does the opposite. Envy says weep when someone else rejoices and rejoice when someone else weeps. Envy is a particularly deadly sin, partly because it’s so hard to discover in ourselves and even harder to admit to. However, through Jesus and through the power of the Holy Spirit there are ways both to discover it and uproot it in our lives.
