The Fading of Forgiveness Week 3
Speaker: Nick Carruthers Series: The Fading of Forgiveness Passage: Matthew 18:15–17, Romans 12:9–21
Not only is the practice of forgiveness fading from our culture, but there are also many misconceptions about it. Maybe you have heard someone say things like, “forgive and forget,” or “if you forgive someone that means you let them off the hook.” Is this true? Is this what forgiveness means? In addition to misconceptions, there is also a whole host of tricky questions that come along with it. Is forgiveness conditional or unconditional? Are forgiveness and reconciliation the same thing? What does reconciliation actually look like? What about in cases of abuse, narcissism, or other complicated situations? What do you do if the person isn’t sorry or doesn’t repent?
