Empowered by the Spirit

In Paul’s most famous section on spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12, he makes a direct connection between the gifts and the need for the Spirit’s power. In verse four, Paul writes this: 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. In other words you can’t talk about the gifts, without talking about the Spirit, and you can’t talk about the Spirit without talking about Power. In light of that, we will look at and try to answer the questions: What is this power? Why do we need it? And finally, how do we receive it?
