Gideon led Israel in a great victory. He tasted wild success. God did the impossible and the people experienced forty years of peace. But in Chapter 8, cracks appear in Gideon’s faith and leadership. By Chapter 9, Gideon’s inconsistencies blow up without restraint through the life of his son, Abimelech. There are lessons here for everyone about leadership, humility, and integrity. This scripture challenges us to reflect on why we choose the leaders we do and the flawed criteria that guide our choices. From the family, to the church, to Washington D.C., our country is suffering from a leadership vacuum, and this passage speaks powerfully to it.
