Marriage and More

Speaker: Series: Grow

This week we come to a major dividing point in this great letter. In the first six chapters, Paul confronted the Corinthians about some of the many compromises in the church based upon a disturbing report that he received about their behaviors. In chapter 7, Paul now begins to answer a series of questions they asked via a letter they had written to him. The first questions have to do with marriage. Marriages were a mess in Corinth. Based on the first six chapters, we know why. These believers were saved out of a society that included widespread fornication, adultery, prostitution, and idol worship. The nature of their questions speaks to the confusion they had about marriage, singleness, divorce, and remarriage. Is it better to be married or single? If I am divorced, can I remarry? If I am married to an unbeliever, what do I do?
