America the Broken

"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold." So wrote William Yeats in "The Second Coming," a poem written in the aftermath of World War I. Yeats could pen the same words today. 65% of Americans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. Conservatives blame it on the loss of traditional and family values. Liberals cite an unwillingness to embrace their progressive vision supported by bigger government. But could there be something deeper at work here? Could our loss of beauty be traced to our "sin"? In this series, we will explore three facets of American life where we substitute our dignity for a lesser "god"--Racism, Abortion, and Obsession with the Body.
