For centuries, the Bible has held a place of honor and respect, at least in western culture. People may have disagreed with it, they may have ignored obeying it, but generally it was assumed that the BIble was a positive influence for good. In recent years, through online memes, tweets, and other forms of communication, the Bible has been painted as both nonsensical and dangerous. There are claims that the Bible is anti-women and anti-science; that it endorses things like slavery and violence; that it forbids things like eating shrimp and wearing t-shirts with both polyester and cotton in them, etc. As Christians, how do we make sense of these difficult and crazy-sounding parts of the Bible? Our culture is talking about them, and we can no longer afford to avoid them. In this series, we are going to tackle these confusing passages and talk through the various concerns and accusations that our current culture is raising.
