We believe that baptism is an important step of obedience for every person who has accepted Christ as his or her Savior.
A big part of what baptism is about is making a personal statement. Baptism is a way for Christians to identify themselves with Christ. The baptism process at Linworth Road Church has been designed to help you understand the step that you are taking, as well as to prepare you to make that statement.
Water baptism is a visual and symbolic demonstration of a person’s union with Christ in His death and resurrection. It signifies that a person’s former way of life has been put to death and is raised to walk in a newness of life.
Symbolically it also signifies a washing away of sin, and union with the other believers. (Rom. 6:3-4; Col 2:12; 1 Peter 3:21; Acts 22:16; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 4:4-6).
Therefore, we believe that baptism is an important step of obedience for every person who has accepted Christ as his or her Savior, in fact, we believe it should be your first big step after accepting Christ. We don’t believe that baptism is necessary for salvation, but it was a command of Christ and therefore we should obey it. In addition, baptism is also a way for Christians to identify themselves with Christ, and follow his example.
