The book of Judges tells the history of Israel during some of its darkest days, and it even ends with “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.” The book of 1 Samuel chronologically follows Judges, and it tells the history of Israel as it moves from being ruled by judges into being ruled by a king. The book is filled with some of the Bible's most known and loved characters and stories. However, when you slow down and read the stories and study the characters you realize that people are complicated. You soon discover that Israel's only hope and in fact humanities, only hope is that one day a better David will come and rule and reign.
